What Are Cataracts?

Cataracts are a normal part of the aging process, and we’re here to help you through it. The lens of the eye is composed primarily of protein, and cataracts are caused by changes in the chemical makeup of the lens. In a healthy eye, light reaches the retina, having passed through a clear lens, but with cataracts the lens becomes cloudy and thicker, resulting in visual distortion. Although cataracts primarily affect people over 50, they can also occur in those who are younger.
