Conductive Keratoplasty

Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK, is a new vision correction procedure that can decrease your dependence on corrective eyewear in order to see things close-up. Designed to improve farsightedness, CK can help you read without squinting and see things close to your eyes with less difficulty. Plus, conductive keratoplasty does not involve any lasers or cutting of the eye’s surface.

Please contact CorrectVision for more information on conductive keratoplasty (CK) in the Weston and Fort Lauderdale, Florida area.

How does CK work?

Conductive Keratoplasty uses radiofrequency energy instead of a laser to improve farsightedness and correct your vision. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved CK after five years of successful clinical trials. The procedure has proven to be a safe, effective method of vision correction that serves as an alternative to laser eye surgery.

Using a pen-shaped instrument with an ultra-fine cool tip, CK is performed after application of anesthetic eye drops to the surface of the eyes. Dr. Bosem will apply radiofrequency energy in a circular pattern along the periphery of the cornea, which minimizes interference with line of sight. The entire procedure is performed here in our office and takes about 15 minutes to complete. Patients can expect to be at our office for approximately one hour on the day the procedure is scheduled.

CK is considered a virtually painless procedure, and you will not have to wear a patch afterward. Most patients can resume normal daily activities the next day, and vision should continue to improve within the first month after treatment.

What results can I expect?

Near Vision CK Improvement

Many of our patients here at CorrectVision have good vision when looking at far distances; however, their near vision needs some improvement. In a lot of cases, these patients only need CK in one eye. This technique is also used in contact lenses and LASIK procedures for patients over 40 years-old. CK offers an advantage in the improvement of near vision with minimal change in distance vision for the eye that is being treated. The advantage with CK is that the improvement in near vision comes with minimal change in distance vision in the treated eye, ultimately offering you a more complete range of near and distant vision.

Distance Vision Improvement

Some patients may require CK in both eyes after becoming more farsighted with age. Treatment in one eye can sharpen distance vision, while treatment in the other eye can improve near vision. Improvements typically range on average from 20/40 to 20/20 at distance.

Doctors at CorrectVision will give you the most recent update on outcomes from CK treatment here at our practice, including specific improvement results from our patients, at your initial consultation for conductive keratoplasty.
