IntraLase
Did you know that LASIK is a two step process? Many people
are unaware of the two steps that it takes to achieve your best visual potential.
In step one, Dr. Bosem creates a micro-thin flap of tissue on the outer layer of your eye, also known as the cornea. The flap is important for rapid healing, greater comfort and better vision. If it is too thick, too thin, or irregular, it could affect the quality of your vision.
Until recently, this step could only be accomplished with a mechanical device called a microkeratome. Now an amazing new FDA approved laser technology called the Intralase® Method has become available and it makes the first step of creating the flap even safer and more precise than it was before.
- Creating the flap with “Bladeless” technology
The IntraLase® Method is the first bladeless laser technology for performing the first step of LASIK and is the most accurate technology for corneal flap creation available today. The laser uses tiny, rapid pulses of laser light to create the corneal flap- instead the “usual” metal blade. Each pulse of light passes through the top layers of the cornea and forms a microscopic bubble at a specific depth and position within the eye. The laser moves back and forth across the eye, creating a uniform layer of bubbles just under your corneal surface.
Prior to applying the laser vision correction, Dr. Bosem creates the corneal flap by gently separating the tissue where the uniformed bubbles have formed. The corneal flap is then folded back so Dr. Bosem can perform the second step of your LASIK treatment.
In Step Two, Dr. Bosem folds open the flap so that an excimer laser can be used on the inner cornea to correct your vision. Your flap is then returned to its original position where it seals without stitches.
Benefits of you choosing IntraLase:
Reaching your best visual potential. (1) It has been stated in clinical trials that more patients achieved 20/20 vision or better when their LASIK procedure was performed with the IntraLase Method. (2) Patients also reported a better overall quality of their vision especially noticed at dusk and night.
Dr. Bosem has the ability to tailor the procedure to your eye. The IntraLase Method gives the doctor the ability to tailor the dimensions of the corneal flap based on what is best for your eye. This of course is important as everyone’s eyes are shaped differently.
