Dry Eye
Dry eye syndrome is a condition which causes burning, itching, and/or excessive watering in the eye. Dr. Marc Bosem and his team at CorrectVision offer a number of treatments for dry eye that alleviate the symptoms and have you seeing more clearly and feeling more comfortable.
Although there are many causes for dry eye syndrome, the condition typically involves problems with the way the eye produces tears. There are two types of tears: lubricating tears and reflex tears. Lubricating tears are produced slowly and steadily throughout each day and contain a precise balance of nutrient proteins, water, mucous, oil, and antibodies that provide protection and nourishment to the eye’s top surface. Reflex tears serve to flood the eye when it is injured or irritated. This can happen when something gets in your eye, if you are around smoke, when you are cutting onions, or if the eye is scratched in some way. Reflex tears gush out in large quantities, ultimately causing the tear drainage system to become overloaded, resulting in a spill of tears out onto the cheek. Reflex tearing can also be caused by eye irritation from lack of lubricating tears. When the eye is suffering from not enough lubricating tears, or an excess of reflex tearing, you may have dry eye syndrome.
